Puerta Maya
The largest town in Cozumel is San Miguel, which is also the island’s commercial and cultural hub. Here, you’ll find a bustling waterfront promenade filled with shops, restaurants, and bars. The vibrant atmosphere of San Miguel is a fantastic place to savor the local cuisine, including fresh seafood and traditional Mexican dishes. These two southern cruise terminals in Cozumel are basically next-door neighbors, so the tips above will cover those of you on the Carnival cruise ships to Cozumel, also. Upon exiting the cruise terminal, you’ll spot a long street filled with shopping malls, souvenir stores, cafes, restaurants, and several historic landmarks. Due to the large number of cruise liners coming to Cozumel daily, Cozumel cruise port consists of 3 cruise terminals, located within walking/short driving distance of each other.

Some rentals also include a stop for lunch and a beverage and time to relax on the beach. However, the other side of Cozumel is beautiful, more rugged looking, and much more private if you’re looking to get away from the crowds. Paradise Beach Club is another option when looking for an all-inclusive excursion with unlimited drinks and food. Enjoy their enormous heated pool and cute boutique shopping stores to pick up your souvenirs. Since 1962, Panaderia la Cozumelena has been serving delicious coffee and breakfast to its patrons. The menu has something for everyone, including light fruit and smoothies to substantial breakfasts.

Taxis from the southern piers to downtown Cozumel should cost around $6 USD. A tour from Cozumel and back will take at least 10 hours and most cruise lines do not offer excursions to this famous Mayan archaeological site. There are a number of day-passes to beaches and resorts offering all inclusive packages but also different combos such as day-pass + buffet + transfers + open bar.

For an extra cost, you can explore other activities like tequila tasting, massages, and kayaking. You also have the option to rent snorkeling gear or dine at the park’s restaurant. The Money Bar Beach Club is a small beachfront bar, which means you’ll need to buy something at the restaurant to enjoy the beach and its amenities. You can find the most pristine, sandy-white beaches along the southwestern coast of Cozumel. Beyond the aquatic wonders, Cozumel also offers a rich cultural experience. The island is home to several archaeological treasures, including Mayan ruins.
Hotels and development block off each access to get to the water. There are a couple of beaches nearby, but you’re usually best off just going to an all-inclusive where there are open beaches and facilities. Of course, so much of visiting Cozumel revolves around the beach and water. Unfortunately, the beaches right near San Miguel (and the cruise ports) aren’t the best.

But for those who want a truly authentic experience Cozumel does not disappoint. You can get a casual, relaxing dining experience at one of the many eateries along the beach or try something more upscale. If you’re going to see some Mayan ruins on the mainland you will end up on a ferry to the mainland. But if you want to pay for it yourself to check out Playa Del Carmen it will cost around $10. The best way to tour Cozumel in your rental is to start by heading south and drive along the shoreline.

There are also plenty of shops and restaurants in the area, making it a great place to shop or try local cuisine. In this area, you meet your tour operators for the tours, and ferries normally come to the terminal to pick up the cruise passengers joining the ship shore excursions. Upon exiting the terminal area, you’ll see many taxi vehicles and mini-buses, as well as large Mercado Popular and Royal Village shopping malls. This area is packed with brand stores (Tag Heuer, Diamonds International, Harley Davidson) and fabulous bars/restaurants (Hard Rock café). International PierRight next to the Puerta Maya Pier, but just to the north, is the International Pier.
Once at the downtown square or El Zocalo/town plaza you will find a raised area with a gazebo on it. Go up the gazebo area, take some photos and enjoy calm peaceful moments there. Punta Langosta is a public port found in the town of San Miguel, the largest city in Cozumel.
At this popular spot, you’ll be sure to see lobster, colorful coral, manta rays, and much more. The mild currents in this area make for an abundance of tropical fish. This location, near the Puerta Maya and International piers, could be the best location for snorkeling in all of Cozumel. This particular club also features a Fun Day pass which includes access to their ocean water park with inflatable trampolines, slides, and more.
It will also be a bit cheaper this way but ensure you confirm the price before getting in. Its proximity to the town of San Miguel makes it a very interesting port to explore. Enjoy walking down the streets of San Miguel embracing the Cozumelian culture and it’s friendly, hospitable people. The are many things you can do at the town, including shopping, sightseeing, and going on a culinary tour. It is used by ships, ferries and some of the smaller cruise lines. This is the best port to dock at if you want to have an authentic Cozumel exploration since it’s right in the heart of San Miguel town.
This dock is highly convenient if you plan to spend some time in the city. Instead of having to get a taxi back and forth from the port, restaurants, bars, and shops are all within walking distance. Cozumel is Mexican island in the Caribbean Sea at tip of the Yucatan Peninsula, regular port of call on Western Caribbean itineraries, particularly those leaving from Florida. Most of the island’s restaurants, hotels, stores, and dive shops are concentrated downtown and along the two hotel zones that fan out on the leeward coast to the north and south of San Miguel. Cozumel’s solitude-seeking windward side has a few beach-bar restaurants, one hotel, and miles of deserted beaches. Isla Cozumel is very famous for its diving and snorkeling because of the magnificent coral reefs that are only a short distance from the shore.
